Description
The Director of Technical Execution, Education is responsible for translating Aveda’s professional business strategy into actionable, results-driven execution plans across salons and Institutes throughout the United States and Canada, with a primary focus on hair color growth and technical excellence. This role also supports the successful execution of education initiatives across hair and scalp care, styling, and skin/spa domains. Serving as the bridge between strategy and field execution, the Director ensures consistent, high-quality technical education that drives business growth, elevates professional expertise, strengthens brand positioning, and enhances service and retail performance across channels.
Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
- Execute North America technical education strategies aligned to global brand vision, color priorities, and business growth goals.
- Drive color conversion, service growth, and technical adoption through focused field execution and cross-functional partnership.
Field Execution & Technical Excellence
- Oversee hair color and cross-domain education programs, launches, and technical initiatives across salon, spa, and Institute channels.
- Ensure consistent technical standards, service protocols, and educator execution that deliver measurable business impact.
Team Leadership & Educator Development
- Lead, coach, and develop five regionally based Technical Education Managers across the United States and Canada.
- Build educator capability, consistency, and accountability through strategic direction, development, and train-the-trainer initiatives.
- Foster a high-performance culture and develop emerging talent for future succession.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence
- Connect global education strategy, regional priorities, and field execution to increase adoption and market impact.
- Partner with sales, marketing, commercial teams, distributors, and salon owners to support launches, engagement, and category growth.
Performance & Operational Excellence
- Establish and track KPIs tied to color conversion, service performance, technical adoption, educator effectiveness, and program engagement.
- Use business insights and performance reviews to optimize execution, strengthen accountability, and inform leadership updates.
Qualifications
- Licensed cosmetologist with advanced expertise in hair color and technical salon education.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in technical education, salon training, professional beauty education leadership, or field education management.
- Proven ability to drive business results through education, including hair color conversion, retail placement and sell-through, service growth, and technical adoption.
- Strong understanding of professional salon business operations, retail and service performance drivers, service provider behaviors, guest experience expectations, and adult learning principles.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing education strategies, train-the-trainer initiatives, and scalable field education programs.
- Experience leading and developing multi-regional education teams, field educators, and people leaders within a matrixed organization.
- Strong strategic thinking and execution skills with the ability to translate business objectives into impactful field initiatives and measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and drive organizational alignment.
- Exceptional facilitation, coaching, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to inspire and influence diverse audiences, from emerging artists to top salon owners, educators, and field leaders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to interpret business metrics, identify opportunities, and drive accountability and performance improvement across markets.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on field engagement, technical coaching, and execution support.
- Experience partnering closely with sales, marketing, commercial, and field leadership teams to support category growth and brand initiatives.
- Deep understanding of hair color, hair and scalp care, styling, and skin/spa service categories within the professional beauty industry.
- Passion for the Aveda mission, sustainability, wellness, and holistic beauty philosophy.
- Computer proficiency in Mac and PC platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual learning/presentation tools.
- Ability to travel up to 70% for field education, events, and business needs.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as business dictates, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Pay Range:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $128,960.00 to $193,440.00. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.
