Overview:
Join our innovative Fragrance R&D team at Research Park in Melville, NY, as a Chemosensory Scientist dedicated to advancing fragrance development for both cosmetic and non-cosmetic products within The Estée Lauder Companies and its Brands. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in sensory science and analytical chemistry to evaluate and optimize product attributes, ensuring that our formulations deliver compelling sensory experiences to consumers. Collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners, you will support end-to-end technical development and product testing, contributing to breakthrough innovations aligned with brand vision and market trends.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Sensory Evaluation: Lead sensory and consumer panel assessments to evaluate fragrance performance, aroma quality, and overall sensory appeal of raw materials and finished products, ensuring alignment with brand and consumer expectations.
  • Analyze Chemical Components: Utilize analytical techniques such as GC, GC/MS, and LC to characterize the performance.
  • Integrate Sensory & Analytical Data: Interpret sensory results alongside analytical chemistry data to provide comprehensive insights into product performance, stability, and consumer preferences.
  • Support Product Development & Innovation: Collaborate with formulation scientists, perfumers, marketing, and external partners to translate sensory insights and analytical findings into innovative fragrance solutions and improvements.
  • Stability & Quality Testing: Lead stability assessments and troubleshooting, using both sensory and analytical methods to ensure product integrity throughout development and shelf life.
  • Specification & Compliance: Generate detailed specifications for raw materials and finished products, ensuring adherence to safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Market & Trend Monitoring: Stay informed about emerging sensory trends, fragrance chemistries, and botanical ingredients, providing strategic input for new ingredient sourcing and development.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field; advanced training (e.g., ISIPCA or similar) preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in fragrance development with a strong focus on sensory science and analytical chemistry within a luxury, prestige, or fragrance environment.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques including GC, GC/MS, and LC, with experience developing and validating methods.
  • Proven ability to combine sensory evaluation with analytic data to support product innovation, stability, and quality.
  • Deep understanding of fragrance chemistries, formulation, and scent profile characterizations.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and innovative team player.
