Description
This position is responsible for tax planning, audit defense and determining adequate reserves for tax positions. This role is also responsible for providing sales tax guidance to the business and state income tax guidance to the business (as it pertains to state income tax planning).
This position supervises and manages a Tax Manager and a Temporary Labor force comprised of 4 persons assisting with all matters pertaining to Federal Income Tax Audits, State Income Tax matters and Sales & Use Tax matters, as well as FIN 48 and FAS 5 related matters.
Overall Job Description:
Managing all aspects of Federal and State audits, claims for refunds, etc. Negotiate optimal settlements on audits, identify state tax planning opportunities, preserve state tax planning, and supervise and develop staff in state tax related matters. Advise the business on all tax technical matters pertaining to Sales & Use Tax and provide guidance on State Income Tax matters as they pertain to state income tax planning.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Successfully manage and negotiate favorable State Tax audit settlements and claims for refund with government authorities. Assist with Federal Tax negotiations and audit settlements. Assist with the preparation of tax appeals and protests.
• Identify Sales Tax Planning Opportunities, quantifying the savings and assessing associated tax risks.
• Oversee the implementation of State Tax savings opportunities for the Company.
• Oversee and manage the Tax projects completed by EY and PWC determining those that are viable and worth pursuing.
• Research, conclude upon, and advise the business on all tax technical matters pertaining to Sales & Use Tax, as well as State Income Tax as it pertains to State Income Tax planning.
• Research tax law changes and document changes in memorandums.
• Identify, measure and ensure adequate reserves for all Federal and State tax positions in accordance with FIN 48 and FAS 5 standards.
• Develop staff to assist with negotiating areas of limited exposure to the Company. Train staff to identify areas of risk and measure them accordingly.
• Responsible for delegating, managing, overseeing, and achieving optimal results in all areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant CPA
- 10 years of both Federal and State Tax experience
- Working knowledge of SAP, Excel, and Microsoft Word
Pay Range:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,550.00 to $208,200.00. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.
