Description
The Associate Counsel, Global Legal Marketing & Regulatory is responsible for advising on legal and regulatory issues related to product development, labeling, advertising, and commercialization. This role supports cross-functional teams – including regulatory affairs, marketing, product innovation, and quality assurance – by providing practical business minded legal counsel on regulatory frameworks and product compliance in multiple jurisdictions. This position focuses on regulatory advisory work, including reviewing promotional rationale and product communications to ensure legal and regulatory accuracy and alignment.
- Provide legal guidance on regulatory issues affecting product formulation, ingredient use, labeling, and sustainability claims
- Partner with business units to develop, implement, and educate on QA and regulatory compliance policies
- Monitor and execute legal strategies to address changes in laws, regulations, and the business environment
- Liaise with government regulatory bodies on product issues, inspections, and inquiries
- Review and advise on marketing materials for compliance with regulations and standards
- Identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies related to product claims, consumer safety, and regulatory trends
- Contribute to corporate and business unit goals as a proactive legal team member and functional partner
- Analyze substantiation to assess legal risk and regulatory alignment
- Collaborate with regulatory, R&D, marketing, and communications teams during product development, launch, and post-market phases
- Provide proactive legal input during innovation processes, including product positioning, packaging, and communication strategy
- Develop strong relationships with outside counsel, guiding their efforts and monitoring performance against budget
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice in NY, preferred
- Minimum 5-8 years of work experience
- English verbal and written fluency
- Cosmetic and OTC industry experience required
- Ability to form collaborative relationships with other legal team members, business leaders and QA and R&D colleagues in a complex, geographically dispersed organization
- Highly motivated, efficient, and organized; able to juggle multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team and working independently
- Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve complex legal challenges with support of more senior team members
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively
- Outstanding research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills; must be able to read, interpret, present and explain legal defense strategies and documents to non-legal professionals
- Able to successfully collaborate with other legal and business colleagues in a complex, geographically dispersed organization
- Excellent business judgment and communication skills
Pay Range:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,550.00 to $208,200.00. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.
