Position Summary

The EHS Manager is responsible for setting and delivering the UK & Ireland environmental, health, safety and sustainability agenda across the retail and office estate.

Key Responsibilities

The role ensures compliance with applicable legal and corporate requirements while providing pragmatic, risk-based support to office locations, free-standing stores, counter locations, brand activities and business change. A central focus is improving environmental performance, including waste governance, resource efficiency, sustainability programmes and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations. Success requires strong partnership with Retail, Corporate Functions, Brands, Facilities, Procurement and external service providers to embed effective standards, assurance and continuous improvement across a diverse, customer-facing estate.

What This Role Does

•  Develop and deliver the UK & Ireland EHS and sustainability strategy for the retail and office estate, aligned with corporate and EUKEM priorities.

•  Own the regional EHS management framework, ensuring policies, standards, procedures and guidance remain current, practical and compliant with legal and corporate requirements.

•  Lead environmental compliance and performance across the estate, with particular focus on waste management, waste hierarchy, recycling, resource efficiency and reduction of environmental impacts.

•  Coordinate the UK & Ireland response to applicable Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements, working cross-functionally to support data quality, governance, compliance submissions and improvement plans.

•  Partner with Retail, Facilities, Procurement, Brands and Corporate Functions to define accountabilities and integrate EHS requirements into day-to-day operations, projects and supplier arrangements.

•  Assess existing and emerging EHS and environmental risks affecting employees, customers, visitors, brands and business operations, and ensure proportionate controls are implemented.

•  Establish a clear KPI and assurance framework to monitor legal compliance, incidents, corrective actions, waste and sustainability performance, and progress against corporate goals.

•  Lead and coordinate audits, inspections and compliance reviews across offices, stores and counter locations, ensuring findings are prioritised, owned and closed effectively.

•  Ensure accidents, near misses, environmental incidents and non-compliance events are investigated to identify root causes and deliver sustained corrective and preventive actions.

•  Develop role-appropriate training, communications and engagement programmes that build employee and line-manager capability and strengthen a positive EHS and environmental culture.

•  Provide competent, timely and pragmatic EHS advice for retail operations, office activities, events, new openings, refurbishments, maintenance activity and business change.

•  Oversee external consultants and service providers supporting EHS, waste and environmental programmes, including setting expectations and monitoring service and compliance performance.

•  Represent the UK & Ireland region in EUKEM and Global EHS forums, sharing learning and supporting the development and implementation of corporate standards.

•  Support crisis management and business continuity arrangements as the subject-matter expert for relevant safety and environmental matters.

•  Lead, coach and develop the EHS team, with clear priorities, objectives and development plans aligned to the evolving retail, office and sustainability agenda.

What You Will Need To Be Successful In This Role

•  Minimum recognised NEBOSH professional qualification.

•  At least five years’ experience in an EHS, environmental or sustainability role with responsibility for legal compliance and management systems.

•  Demonstrable knowledge of UK health and safety and environmental legislation relevant to retail and office environments.

•  Practical experience of waste governance, environmental performance improvement and sustainability delivery; knowledge of Extended Producer Responsibility requirements is strongly preferred.

•  Experience of supporting a geographically dispersed, multi-site estate; EHS experience in retail or another customer-facing environment would be an advantage.

•  Experience of developing, implementing and maintaining EHS management systems; knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is desirable.

•  Ability to translate legal and corporate requirements into clear, proportionate and operationally workable standards and actions.

•  Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and secure ownership across functions and levels.

•  Experience of incident investigation, root cause analysis, auditing, corrective action management, training and performance reporting.

•  Effective project-management, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across the UK & Ireland estate.
